Julia Ladd, assistant vice president for property management at Macerich, which owns and operates Santa Monica Place shopping center, has been selected to serve as chair of the Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. Board of Directors.
Ladd, who has served on the DTSM board for the past five years, will be responsible for conducting the DTSM board meetings, while working closely with DTSM staff to help set meeting agendas and board priorities. Ladd was elected chair during a vote by the DTSM board at its regularly scheduled meeting held on July 27, 2017.
During her time in Santa Monica, Ladd has enthusiastically worked closely with City Hall, Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (formerly the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau), and the Chamber of Commerce, having served as board chair, to promote the community and downtown as a local gathering place, and a "must-see" visitor and tourist destination.
She has over 30 years experience managing and redeveloping shopping centers and mixed-use environments across the country — including more than 21 years with Macerich, which is based in Santa Monica. Ladd is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of Santa Monica Place and the regional oversight of the Los Angeles Westside shopping centers.
She leads the Santa Monica Place team efforts in supporting diverse civic and community organizations including the Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation (SMMEF), Police Activities League (PAL), Santa Monica Fire Fighters Association, American Red Cross, Santa Monica History Museum, New West Symphony, Pico Youth Foundation, Santa Monica Orchestra, City of Hope, Heal The Bay and other community efforts.
Ladd’s desire to contribute to wellbeing and community also includes involvement in the Alliance for the Arts, The American Heart Association and The Manna Food Bank, as well as active support in her community church mission work.
